ENGIE is a Paris-listed global energy group focused on the energy transition and decarbonization infrastructure. The company operates across the full energy value chain, from generation to networks and retail supply, with a portfolio built around renewable electricity, low-carbon gas, battery storage and power flexibility, transmission and distribution networks, local heating and cooling infrastructure, and energy efficiency services. ENGIE says it invests more than €10 billion per year to accelerate the energy transition and aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2045. As of 25 February 2026, the group employed about 98,000 people across 30 countries. ENGIE’s roots date back to 1946, when Gaz de France was created as a French public utility company. The current group was formed through the merger of Gaz de France and SUEZ, effective 22 July 2008. That transaction combined Gaz de France’s historical position in gas with SUEZ’s industrial and international capabilities, laying the foundation for ENGIE’s evolution into a diversified energy player with a strong utility profile and a growing focus on low-carbon solutions. Operationally, ENGIE is a leading player in Europe and globally across several strategic segments. In renewables, it ranks among the major wind and solar operators in France, is a significant hydroelectric producer, and develops offshore wind through its joint venture Ocean Winds. The group is also a leading company in long-term green corporate power purchase agreements, and it is increasingly active in battery storage to support grid stability. In networks, ENGIE holds important gas and electricity transmission, distribution, and storage assets. In services, it supports municipalities, industrial clients and commercial customers through district heating and cooling, on-site energy production, and energy management services. ENGIE benefits from broad geographic diversification across Europe, Latin America and other international markets, reducing concentration risk and supporting long-term growth. The group reports around 20 million customer contracts, with nearly half located outside France, and maintains a leading position in French gas marketing as well as a major role in Belgium through Electrabel. In 2025, ENGIE continued to expand its renewables and battery base, reinforced its integrated business model and advanced investments in regulated assets and energy security. This makes ENGIE a core European utility name combining network stability, renewable growth and structural exposure to global decarbonization trends.
