Philippe Brunet has served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Renault Group since September 2025. The role was created to accelerate innovation, improve development execution, and strengthen coordination across engineering, product planning, quality, procurement, manufacturing, and supply chain. In this capacity, he leads engineering for both Renault Group and Ampere and is a member of the Group’s Leadership Team. His career reflects a long-standing specialization in automotive engineering and powertrain technologies. Brunet began his professional journey in 1988 at Aérospatiale, working on geostationary satellite design. He then joined the Renault Formula One team, where he held several engine development roles from 1989 to 1999. In 2000, he moved into Renault Group engineering. By 2012, he had joined Renault Group’s Deputy General Management, responsible for product planning and programs, and was appointed program director for the D-segment. In 2017, he became Alliance Global Vice President for ICE, hybrid, and electric powertrains. In 2021, he was named Senior Vice President, Powertrain & EV Engineering. In November 2023, he took charge of vehicle EV and mechanical engineering at Ampere. Over time, Brunet has established himself as a key figure in electrification strategy and powertrain transformation at Renault Group. The company highlights his contribution to strengthening E-Tech technologies, expanding the electric-vehicle value chain, and shortening development lead times on programs such as Twingo and battery projects. His CTO appointment aligns with Renault Group’s FutuREady strategy, which emphasizes modern vehicle platforms, electrification, electronic architecture, software, and digital capabilities as core drivers of competitiveness. Brunet therefore plays a central role in Renault Group’s technological transformation, combining deep engineering expertise with experience in complex industrial and program leadership.
