Katherine E. Fleming is a prominent executive and academic leader who currently serves as an independent director of Accor. Appointed to the Board in 2025, she brings to the company deep experience in governance, institutional strategy, and the leadership of complex organizations. At Accor, her role is centered on oversight, guidance, and strategic input to management in a global environment shaped by growth, portfolio transformation, and increasing demands for sustainable performance. Before joining Accor’s Board, Fleming built a widely respected career in higher education and cultural institutions. Most notably, she served as Provost of New York University (NYU) from 2016 to 2022. In that role, she was responsible for managing an annual budget of around $6 billion and for helping shape the university’s strategy across the United States and abroad. That experience gave her extensive exposure to large-scale governance, organizational transformation, and the management of highly diverse stakeholder groups. She is also the CEO and President of the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles, one of the world’s wealthiest arts institutions. In this position, she oversees a major international organization that includes museums, research centers, and conservation activities. Her responsibilities require a combination of strategic vision, operational discipline, and a strong global outlook, all of which are highly relevant in boardroom settings. A trained historian, Fleming holds the Alexander S. Onassis Chair of Hellenic Culture and Civilization at NYU and has authored several works on the modern Mediterranean. She earned her BA from Columbia University, her MA from the University of Chicago, and her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. For Accor, Fleming’s profile is particularly valuable in discussions around corporate governance, long-term strategy, stakeholder balance, and international institutional leadership. Her blend of academic depth and executive experience strengthens the Board’s ability to support a global hospitality group facing cyclical markets, reputational considerations, and long-term transformation challenges.
