Ewout Steenbergen is an internationally experienced financial executive known for his expertise in insurance, finance, and digital transformation. He is Dutch and holds a master’s degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Amsterdam, as well as an MBA from the University of Rochester and Nyenrode University. He began his career in 1993 at ING Group, where he held multiple leadership positions across Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the United States, building a broad cross-border management background early in his career. He later joined Voya Financial, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 2010 to 2016. That role established him as a senior finance leader with strong credentials in capital allocation, financial discipline, and performance management in the insurance and financial services sector. In 2016, he became Chief Financial Officer of S&P Global, and in 2022 his remit expanded when he was appointed President of S&P Engineering Solutions following the merger with IHS Markit. From 2018 onward, he also led Kensho Technologies, an artificial intelligence company, underlining his ability to bridge finance, technology, and innovation. Since March 15, 2024, he has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Booking Holdings. At AXA, Steenbergen was appointed as a Board member effective January 1, 2025, and later named Chair of the Audit Committee effective January 1, 2026. He also sits on AXA’s Finance & Risk Committee. AXA has highlighted his insurance background and strategic perspective on digital transformation as key assets for the Group’s governance. His international leadership track record, combined with deep experience in internal control, risk oversight, and financial stewardship, makes him a well-suited figure for the boardroom of a major listed insurer.
