Gérald Harlin is a senior figure in AXA’s corporate governance and financial leadership, where he currently serves as a director. In this role, he sits on the Finance and Risk Committee and on the Compensation, Governance and Sustainability Committee, underscoring his expertise in balance-sheet management, risk oversight, governance and ESG matters. His career reflects more than four decades of experience in finance-oriented leadership roles within major international groups, with a particularly deep track record in insurance, investment and corporate finance. A graduate of ESSEC, Harlin began his career at Total, where he held a series of positions from 1979 to 1990, including responsibility for the financial management of North American subsidiaries and mining and chemical operations. He joined AXA in 1990 as Group Treasurer and was promoted in 1991 to Head of Corporate Finance. In 1994, he broadened his scope as CFO of AXA Asset Management Europe and its subsidiaries, while also serving as CEO of AXA Banque. In 1997, he moved to AXA France as Chief Investment Officer, and in 2001 he became CFO of AXA France. From 2003 to 2009, he served as Executive Vice-President, Finance & Control of the AXA Group, before becoming Group Chief Financial Officer from 2010 until the end of 2019. During that period, he was a member of AXA’s Executive Committee and later the Group’s Management Committee. In December 2017, he was also appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, adding broader operational responsibilities to his financial portfolio. From December 2019 to September 2020, he served as Executive Chairman of AXA Investment Managers. His career is marked by continuity, technical depth and influence, especially in shaping AXA’s financial discipline, supporting the group’s international growth and reinforcing the governance framework of one of Europe’s leading insurers.
