Julia Marton-Lefèvre is a French-American executive and internationally recognized expert in sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and environmental governance. She has served as an independent director of Veolia Environnement since 25 April 2024 and is a member of the Board’s Research, Innovation and Sustainable Development Committee. At Veolia, she brings deep global expertise on climate transition, resource stewardship, environmental policy, and long-term value creation through sustainability-led strategy. A graduate of Wilson College, Marton-Lefèvre built her career across international organizations, academia, and environmental institutions. She began her professional journey in Thailand as a university lecturer with the American Peace Corps, before joining UNESCO in France as an expert in international environmental education. From 1978 to 1997, she served as Executive Director of the International Council for Science, and from 1997 to 2005 she led LEAD International. She also held an eight-year leadership term at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), where she played a central role in connecting science, environmental advocacy, and policy dialogue on a global scale. Beyond Veolia, she has served in senior roles with major sustainability-focused institutions, including the Villars Institute Foundation, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement executive committee, and advisory bodies such as IDDRI.
