Nils Christian Bergene is a notable figure in Rubis’ governance. He served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board from July 2023, having first joined the Board as an independent member. He also chaired the Audit and Risk Monitoring Committee and sat on the Compensation and Appointments Committee, which placed him at the center of oversight, internal control, and board-level governance matters. Rubis later announced that he stepped down from his chairmanship and board role in 2025. A Norwegian national, Bergene graduated from Sciences Po Paris and INSEAD. He began his career in 1979 at BRS in Paris as a maritime charter broker. He then returned to Norway, where he led several maritime companies within the Kvaerner industrial group for eight years. Since 1993, he has worked as an independent maritime charter broker through Nitrogas, the company he co-founded. This background gave him deep expertise in shipping, logistics, international business, and the management of cyclical, asset-intensive industries. At Rubis, his role came at a time when the group was strengthening its governance framework and board responsibilities. As Supervisory Board Chairman, he helped oversee management performance, risk supervision, and shareholder dialogue for a listed international energy group. His independence, international outlook, and long experience in maritime and industrial businesses made him a credible governance leader for a company operating on Euronext Paris.
