Raphaël Appert is a long-standing executive within the Crédit Agricole Group, having built his entire career inside the mutual banking network and its regional institutions. A graduate of EDHEC in 1983, he joined the branch network of Crédit Agricole du Nord-Est the same year. He steadily developed broad expertise in retail banking, commercial management and regional organisation, gradually taking on wider leadership responsibilities. In 1995, he became head of the commercial network of Crédit Agricole de la Sarthe, and in 1998 he was appointed Finance and Marketing Director of Crédit Agricole de l’Anjou et du Maine. In 2002, he moved to Crédit Agricole Centre-Est as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, a role that gave him a broader view of performance management, transformation and the governance of a major regional bank. In 2005, the board of Crédit Agricole Val-de-France appointed him as Chief Executive Officer, a key milestone in his career. In that position, he strengthened his experience as a regional banking leader, working closely with cooperative members, directors and local economic stakeholders. His path within the agricultural mutual banking model also led him to national group responsibilities. Since May 2017, he has represented SAS Rue La Boétie on the Board of Directors of Crédit Agricole S.A. SAS Rue La Boétie is the vehicle through which the Regional Banks hold the majority of Crédit Agricole S.A.’s capital. This strategic role is accompanied by service as Deputy Chairman of the Board, as well as membership in several committees, including the Strategy Committee, the Appointments and Governance Committee, and the Societal Commitment Committee. Raphaël Appert’s strength lies in his deep understanding of the mutual governance model, the balance between local roots and central oversight, and the operational realities of the banking network. His profile reflects the continuity of Crédit Agricole’s model: territorial proximity, disciplined management, cooperative governance and the ability to support major industry transformations. He contributes to the Group’s strategic direction and to the dialogue between Crédit Agricole S.A. and its mutual shareholders in an environment shaped by regulatory, technological and societal change.
