Patrice Caine is one of France’s leading industrial and technology executives, and his most notable position is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Thales, a role he has held since December 2014. His career combines a strong engineering background with top-level experience in public administration, industrial strategy and the management of complex technology businesses. Before joining Thales, he began his career in the pharmaceutical industry, then moved into strategy consulting and mergers and acquisitions in London. He later served in senior French government roles linked to industry and energy, and worked as a technical adviser on energy in the office of Laurent Fabius, then Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry. Caine joined Thales in 2002 in the strategy department and went on to hold a series of leadership positions across operating divisions, including Air and Naval, Communication, Navigation and Identification, Air Systems, Radio-Communication Products, Network and Infrastructure Systems, and Protection Systems. That internal progression gave him a broad view of the group’s businesses, from advanced engineering to mission-critical systems, industrial execution and performance management. In February 2013, he was appointed Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Performance Officer, before taking the helm of Thales at the end of 2014. As chief executive, Patrice Caine has championed a strategy built around innovation, cybersecurity, defence, aerospace and trusted technologies. He has made research, digital capabilities and artificial intelligence central to the company’s competitiveness, while emphasizing the need to combine physical sciences with digital expertise. Under his leadership, Thales has also strengthened its positioning on long-term priorities such as technological sovereignty, sustainability and talent attraction. He regularly frames the group’s purpose as helping to build a world that is safer, greener and more inclusive. Caine also holds important roles in the French industrial ecosystem, notably as Chairman of ANRT, and he has been a board member of L’Oréal since 2018. His reputation rests on a discreet but decisive leadership style, a strong scientific culture, and an ability to connect strategic vision, innovation and disciplined execution.
