Nicolas Namias is a leading French banking executive, best known for his long career within Groupe BPCE and for his expertise in strategy, finance, and the governance of large financial institutions. He has served as Chairman of the BPCE Management Board since December 3, 2022. He also played a governance role at COFACE SA, where he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors in September 2020, underscoring his standing as a trusted board-level executive in listed and financial companies. Namias began his career in 2004 at the French Treasury department within the Ministry of Economy and Finance. There, he first worked on the preparation of international financial summits and later became alternate government commissioner to the French financial markets regulator, the AMF. This early experience in public administration gave him a strong grounding in macroeconomics, regulation, and institutional affairs—skills that are highly relevant in banking and insurance. He joined Groupe BPCE in 2008, where he held roles including Head of Steering for Retail Banking and Insurance until 2012. After serving as an adviser to the French Prime Minister on financing the economy, corporates, and international economic affairs, he returned to BPCE in 2014 as Head of Strategy and then Chief Financial Officer of Natixis, where he also sat on the senior management committee. In 2018, he became a member of the BPCE Management Board, initially responsible for finance and strategy, and from August 2020 he served as Chief Executive Officer of Natixis. At BPCE, Namias represents a leadership style centered on transformation, financial discipline, and long-term value creation. His background shows an ability to connect strategic vision, risk management, capital efficiency, and business diversification. At Coface, his role as board chairman also coincided with a period of strategic execution, including the Build to Lead plan and initiatives to improve capital efficiency, such as share buyback programs. Academically, Namias is a graduate of ESSEC Business School, Sciences Po Paris, the École Nationale d’Administration, and Stanford Graduate School of Business (executive program). This combination of public-sector training and advanced business education has positioned him as a well-rounded executive for complex financial institutions and listed-company governance.
