Yann Gérardin is one of the most influential executives in French investment banking, having spent his entire professional career at BNP Paribas since joining the bank in 1987. He holds degrees from HEC Paris and Sciences Po Paris, and also earned a bachelor’s degree in econometrics. This academic background, combined with decades of front-office and leadership experience, has made him a highly respected figure in European corporate and investment banking. His career reflects a steady progression through key market businesses and senior management roles within the BNP Paribas Group. Gérardin first made his mark by creating BNP’s equity derivatives business, before being appointed Global Head of Equity Derivatives at BNP Paribas in 1999. In 2005, he expanded his remit to lead the Equity and Equity Derivatives division, which also absorbed the commodities derivatives business that same year. This gave him deep expertise in listed and over-the-counter derivatives, equity markets, and market risk management. He joined the Group Executive Committee in 2011, became Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking in 2014, was appointed Deputy Chief Operating Officer in charge of CIB in 2018, and then Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas in 2021. Since 1 September 2025, he has served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Chairman of CIB. His leadership is closely associated with the strengthening of BNP Paribas CIB as a global platform, especially in equity derivatives, structured solutions, and client-focused capital markets and financing activities. He also played a central role in strategic moves that reinforced BNP Paribas’s equity franchise, including the acquisition of Exane and the integration of Deutsche Bank’s Global Prime Finance and Electronic Equities business. More broadly, he is known for having transformed a relatively small derivatives franchise into a world-class business, combining entrepreneurial vision with strict operational discipline and strong managerial execution.
