Tamara de Gruyter is an internationally experienced executive known for her leadership in marine, industrial services and energy transition businesses. At Nexans, she was proposed and then appointed as an independent director in 2024, and she also serves on the Audit, Accounts and Risks Committee, the Compensation Committee, and the Nominations and Corporate Governance Committee. Nexans has highlighted her international background, her strong industrial perspective and her governance expertise as key assets for the Board. Before her formal appointment, she also served as a censor, helping reinforce Board-level dialogue while remaining subject to the same obligations as directors. Concurrently, de Gruyter holds senior leadership roles at Wärtsilä, a Finnish company widely recognized for technologies supporting the marine and energy transition sectors. She started her career in 1996 at LIPS, which Wärtsilä acquired in 2002, and went on to hold a range of managerial positions across the company’s Marine and Services businesses. Her career includes leadership of two joint ventures in China, responsibility for Wärtsilä’s pump business in Singapore, and several vice president roles after returning to Europe. In late 2019, she became Chief Transformation Officer, joined Wärtsilä’s Executive Board in 2020, took over as President of Portfolio Business in January 2024, and later assumed leadership of Wärtsilä Energy Storage in 2025. She graduated from Haarlem Polytechnic and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Shipbuilding Engineering. Her profile combines operational depth, cross-border management experience and transformation leadership. For Nexans, that background is particularly relevant in a board context focused on risk oversight, strategic discipline, industrial execution and long-term value creation.
