Jean-Paul Alary is a French industrial executive widely recognized in the aerospace sector, with a career built across several key Safran businesses. A graduate of École Centrale Paris in 1990, he began his professional path in the engineering division of Snecma Moteurs, now Safran Aircraft Engines, before moving into production. This combination of design and manufacturing exposure helped shape a highly rounded profile, both technically grounded and strongly execution-oriented. He later worked at Microturbo, and in 2004 joined Hurel-Hispano as CF34-8/-10 program manager, taking responsibility for engine programs and gradually expanding his scope on strategic platforms linked to future single-aisle aircraft. In April 2007, he was appointed head of the Large Nacelles division at Aircelle, and in 2008 became Vice President, Programs. This period strengthened his expertise in complex program management, customer relations, and industrial ramp-up. In 2010, he returned to the engine business at Snecma Commercial Engine Division as head of customer support, deepening his understanding of in-service reliability, aftermarket performance, and operational support. In July 2013, he became Executive Vice President of Safran Electronics at Sagem, and in June 2015 was named CEO of Safran Nacelles, while also joining Safran’s Executive Committee. In February 2018, Jean-Paul Alary took over as CEO of Safran Landing Systems, where he oversaw a critical business focused on landing gear systems, safety, and aircraft operational performance. He later moved to lead Safran Aircraft Engines, where he drew on his cross-functional experience to oversee civil and military engines, customer support, services, and industrial transformation. His career reflects a rare blend of aerospace engineering expertise, large-scale program leadership, operational management, and value creation in high-technology industrial businesses. In 2024, Safran announced that he would leave the leadership of Safran Aircraft Engines in the first months of 2025, underscoring his status as one of the group’s most prominent executives.
