Jean Lemierre is a leading figure in French and European banking governance. A graduate of Sciences Po Paris and the École Nationale d’Administration, he began his career in the French tax administration, where he held a series of senior posts, including Head of Tax Legislation and Director General of Taxes. That early experience gave him deep expertise in public policy, taxation and the functioning of the French state, skills that later proved invaluable in finance and corporate governance. He subsequently served as chief of staff to the French Minister of Economy and Finance and was appointed Head of the French Treasury in October 1995, reinforcing his reputation as a highly respected economic and financial policy expert. From 2000 to 2008, Lemierre was President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a key institution supporting development financing and economic transition across Europe and emerging markets. In 2008, he joined BNP Paribas as an advisor to the Chairman, and on 1 December 2014 he became Chairman of the Board of Directors. He continues in that role, with his current term running through the 2026 Annual General Meeting. At BNP Paribas, he is central to strategic oversight, governance leadership and engagement with the Group’s major stakeholders. Jean Lemierre also serves on the Board of Directors of Pernod Ricard, where his international perspective and understanding of regulation, strategy and financial performance are highly valued. His career is notable for combining public-sector authority, global banking leadership and international institutional experience, making him a benchmark board leader on governance, financial stability, strategic discipline and long-term value creation.
