Wei Sun Christianson is a highly respected international business leader with deep expertise in capital markets, financial regulation, and China strategy. Appointed to the board of LVMH in 2024, she serves on the board of the French luxury group, where her background is especially relevant to governance, capital allocation, international growth, and the understanding of Chinese market dynamics, a critical region for LVMH’s maisons. LVMH has specifically highlighted her financial background, her understanding of the luxury sector, and her deep knowledge of China as key assets for the board. Before joining LVMH, Christianson built a more than 30-year career in investment banking and financial regulation. She graduated from Amherst College and Columbia Law School, is a member of the New York Bar, and began her career at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York. She then moved to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, where she helped shape the regulatory framework that enabled mainland Chinese companies to list outside China. She later held senior roles at Credit Suisse First Boston and Citigroup Global Markets (Asia) in China. Her most prominent professional chapter was at Morgan Stanley, where she spent nearly two decades. There, she served as CEO for China and later as Co-CEO for Asia Pacific, with overall responsibility for the supervision and coordination of the firm’s business activities in China and across parts of the region. Under her leadership, Morgan Stanley expanded its onshore footprint and played a meaningful role in major capital markets transactions, privatizations, and M&A deals linked to the growth of Chinese corporates. She retired from Morgan Stanley in 2022 after contributing significantly to the firm’s franchise in China. Her profile is further strengthened by experience on other international boards, including in finance and consumer sectors, giving her a seasoned governance perspective and a strong ability to navigate cross-border, regulatory, and reputational issues for a global group such as LVMH.
