Sébastien Wetter is a Société Générale executive whose career reflects a deep understanding of the group’s businesses, clients, and governance. A French national, he holds a master’s degree in fundamental physics and graduated from EM Lyon Business School. He joined Société Générale in 1997 in the Strategy and Marketing division of the retail bank, where he gained early exposure to commercial strategy, customer needs, and the economics of banking transformation. Over nearly three decades with the group, he has held a broad range of positions across several strategic business lines, building a profile that combines operational depth with cross-functional leadership. In 2002, he moved to the Group’s Organisation Consulting department, where he led assignments within Corporate & Investment Banking and contributed to the rollout of the Group-wide participatory innovation programme. At the end of 2005, he joined the commodities markets business as a global Chief Operating Officer, before taking on business development responsibilities in 2008. From 2010 to 2014, he served as Secretary General of the Group’s General Inspection and Audit function, a role that placed him close to internal control, risk oversight, and governance processes. In 2014, he joined the Corporate & Investment Bank’s Commercial Division, first as Head of marketing for major French and international clients, and then, from 2016, as Global Chief Operating Officer for the Financial Institutions coverage teams. Since 2020, he has managed Société Générale’s relationships with international financial institutions, reinforcing his expertise in large-client coverage, international banking relationships, and commercial execution at scale. Elected as a director representing employee shareholders, he also sits on the Audit and Internal Control Committee and on the Supervisory Board of the group employee share ownership fund (FCPE). This gives him a meaningful role in the group’s governance architecture. His professional profile is marked by strong operational credentials, international scope, audit and control experience, and a consistent focus on innovation, stakeholder dialogue, and ESG considerations.
