Marc Schuller is a senior French industrial executive best known for his long career at Arkema and the chemical companies that preceded it. Born in 1960 and a graduate of ESSEC, he began his career in 1985 at Orkem as an acrylics product manager. He then steadily broadened his scope across strategy, operations, and commercial leadership, joining Total Chimie’s Strategy division in 1990 and becoming deputy managing director of the Structural Resins department at Cray Valley in 1992. In 1995, he moved into high-visibility commercial roles at Total, before later becoming Director of Petrochemicals at TotalFina. His expertise in upstream chemical markets deepened from 2000 onward, when he was appointed head of Atofina’s Butadiene/Aromatics business unit and special advisor to the Chairman. In 2003, he took charge of the Thiochemicals and Fine Chemicals business unit, and later became Executive Vice President responsible for the Coating Solutions and Industrial Specialties segments when Arkema was created. This career path reflects a rare combination of industrial know-how and the ability to manage complex businesses exposed to raw-material volatility, capital intensity, and global competitive pressure. At Arkema, Marc Schuller currently serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO), a role he has held since March 3, 2020. In this capacity, he oversees the Coating Solutions, Intermediates, and Advanced Materials segments, as well as North America, global raw-material and energy procurement, and commercial excellence. This broad remit makes him one of the group’s key executives for operational execution, ensuring alignment between growth strategy, industrial performance, and financial discipline. Schuller has also played an important institutional role in the European chemical industry. He became President of the EPCA (European Petrochemical Association) in October 2017, following service as Vice President. That position strengthened his reputation as a respected industry voice on competitiveness, industrial transition, and the evolution of chemical value chains across Europe.
