Jacques Aschenbroich, born in 1954, is one of France’s most respected corporate governance figures. Since May 19, 2022, he has served as Chairman of Orange’s Board of Directors in a non-executive capacity, playing a central role in the company’s strategic oversight. His profile reflects a distinctive combination of senior public administration experience, long-term industrial leadership and extensive board-level expertise at major listed companies. He also chairs the Orange Foundation, extending his influence to the group’s social and community commitments. A graduate engineer from the Corps des Mines, Aschenbroich began his career in the French public sector, including service in the Prime Minister’s office in 1987 and 1988. He then joined Saint-Gobain in 1988, where he spent two decades building a strong industrial track record. During that period, he held several operational and executive posts in France and abroad, including in Brazil, Germany, the United States and Canada. He went on to manage the flat glass division, became Chairman of Saint-Gobain Vitrage, and later served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain from 2001 to 2008, with responsibility for flat glass and high-performance materials. In 2009, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Valeo, later becoming Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 2016. Under his leadership, the automotive equipment supplier strengthened its technology positioning and international transformation, before he stepped down from executive duties. He subsequently served as Chairman of Valeo’s Board until the end of 2022 and is now Honorary Chairman. This career path established him as an exacting industrial leader with deep experience in capital-intensive businesses, innovation-driven markets and global competition. Beyond his executive roles, Aschenbroich has held board positions at major groups including BNP Paribas and TotalEnergies. He is widely recognized for his expertise in governance, industrial strategy, international expansion and the oversight of large listed companies. At Orange, his role is to ensure a balanced governance framework that supports strategic direction, effective supervision and close alignment with the executive team in a sector undergoing continuous technological and market change.
