Humbert de Wendel is a French corporate leader known for his strong expertise in corporate finance, funding, and strategic development within large industrial groups. A graduate of Sciences Po Paris and ESSEC, he built most of his career at Total, which he joined in 1982. There, he held progressively more senior positions, mainly within the finance function, and also gained international exposure through several years in London in the finance division of one of Total’s joint ventures. During his career at Total, Humbert de Wendel occupied a number of key roles that placed him at the center of the group’s financial management and external growth agenda. From 2006 to 2011, he served as Director of Acquisitions and Divestments and was responsible for the group’s corporate business development, contributing to the structuring and execution of strategic portfolio transactions. Until 2016, he then became Director of Financing and Cash Management, as well as Group Treasurer, a critical role involving liquidity management, capital structure oversight, and banking relationships. At Wendel, he brings this combination of industrial and financial experience to the company’s governance. He has been a member of Wendel’s Supervisory Board since May 30, 2011, and sits on the Audit, Risks and Compliance Committee. In that capacity, he contributes to oversight of financial reporting quality, risk monitoring, and compliance and internal control frameworks. He is also a director of Wendel-Participations SE. His background is particularly well suited to listed companies and complex capital-intensive environments: deep finance knowledge, strong M&A and divestment experience, treasury leadership, and a clear understanding of industrial operations. His profile also reflects Wendel’s historical family-business heritage while being grounded in a long executive career within a major international group. As a result, he represents a seasoned governance figure focused on financial discipline, value creation, and the protection of long-term shareholder interests.
