Alexandre Mérieux is a key figure in the governance of bioMérieux, the French specialist in in vitro diagnostics. He currently serves as Executive Chairman of bioMérieux, after having previously held the roles of Chief Executive Officer and, earlier, Chairman and CEO. Following the governance changes implemented in July 2023, he retained a strategic leadership role on the Board, while day-to-day management was entrusted to Pierre Boulud. He is also a long-standing board member of bioMérieux. He holds a degree in biology from Lyon I University and a diploma from HEC Montréal. Before joining bioMérieux, he spent 1999 to 2004 in marketing roles at Silliker Group, working in the United States and Europe, and later as a marketing and business unit director in France. He joined bioMérieux in 2005 as Executive Vice President, Industrial Microbiology. He then led the Industrial Microbiology business from 2005 to 2011, and the Microbiology division from 2011 to 2014. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2014 and became Chairman and CEO in December 2017. His career reflects the continuity of the Mérieux family’s industrial and scientific legacy, but also a progression built on operational management experience. At bioMérieux, he has overseen the strengthening of microbiology activities, the development of higher-value diagnostic solutions, and the execution of an international growth strategy. During his tenure, the company continued to invest in innovation, commercial expansion, and industrial capabilities in a healthcare environment undergoing rapid change. A notable moment in his leadership was the 2023 governance reshaping, designed to separate strategic oversight from executive management more clearly.
