Pierre Palmieri is a senior French banking executive and currently serves as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Société Générale. Within the group’s governance framework, established under the leadership of CEO Slawomir Krupa, he holds a central executive role and participates directly in the strategic management of the bank. Société Générale identifies him as one of the key leaders of its general management team. A graduate of the École Supérieure de Commerce in Tours, Palmieri began his career at Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking in 1987 in export finance. In 1989, he was placed in charge of the financial engineering team, marking the start of a long career in complex financing, structured solutions, and advisory work. This early background gave him deep expertise in financing solutions for large corporates and institutional clients, with strong exposure to international markets and diverse industry sectors. Over the years, he has held several major leadership positions within Société Générale’s corporate and investment banking activities. In 2018, he was appointed Global Head of Global Banking and Advisory, then later led Global Banking & Investor Solutions before being proposed as Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer in 2023. This progression reflects a career built on leadership across financing, investment banking, and large-client relationships, with increasing responsibility at group level. Palmieri has also played a notable role in Société Générale’s sustainability agenda. In 2017, he led the launch of a consolidated “Sustainable and Positive Impact Finance” offering, aimed at embedding environmental and social considerations into client solutions across the bank’s activities. More recently, he has commented publicly on the role banks can play in supporting industries undergoing transformation, such as automotive, underlining the importance of finance in industrial change and transition. His profile combines market expertise, strategic leadership, and a strong focus on sustainable finance.
