Philippe Brassac is a leading figure in French banking and in the governance of large listed companies. A graduate of the École nationale de la statistique et de l’administration économique (ENSAE) and holder of a postgraduate degree in mathematics, he began his career in 1982 at Crédit Agricole du Gard. He first worked in operational and financial roles, including head of organization and later head of finance, banking and marketing, before steadily rising through the Crédit Agricole Group. His career then moved into senior leadership. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole S.A., becoming the group’s top executive and one of the most influential banking leaders in Europe. During his tenure, he helped steer the group through a period of transformation, with a strong focus on balance-sheet strength, business diversification, operational efficiency, and the growth of insurance, savings and retail banking activities. He also became a key representative of the banking industry, notably as Chairman of the French Banking Federation from 2022. In corporate governance, Philippe Brassac joined Gecina in 2025, where he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. This role reflects his widely recognized expertise in strategy, risk oversight and corporate governance. His long experience in a major mutual banking group, together with a deep understanding of funding, capital discipline and resource allocation, makes him a highly credible board leader for a listed real estate company. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Veolia Environnement, where his financial background and governance experience add value on performance, long-term value creation and strategic oversight. Across his career, Philippe Brassac has stood out for his disciplined management style, long-term vision and ability to lead complex organizations operating in highly regulated and demanding environments.
