Sir Peter Estlin is a well-known figure in British finance and corporate governance, currently serving as an independent member of the Supervisory Board of Rothschild & Co. Within that board role, he also chairs the Audit Committee and sits on the Risk Committee as well as the Remuneration and Nomination Committee. After a career spanning nearly 30 years in banking and financial services, he has built a reputation as a highly experienced leader with deep expertise in accounting, financial control, governance, and listed-company oversight. He qualified as a chartered accountant and began his career at Coopers & Lybrand, where he became a partner in 1993. He then moved into international investment banking, serving as CFO of Salomon Brothers Asia in Hong Kong before becoming CFO of Citigroup’s Corporate & Investment Banking division in New York and London. These roles gave him extensive exposure to global capital markets, regulatory requirements, risk management, and the financial discipline needed in complex cross-border institutions. In late 2008, Estlin joined Barclays as Group Financial Controller. He later held senior finance positions across the group, including CFO of Retail & Business Banking and Non-Core, and also served as Acting Group CFO and a Senior Adviser. His career at Barclays reflected the ability to lead through transformation, balance-sheet pressure, and organizational change. Beyond banking, he also played a prominent civic role: he served as Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2018–2019, following earlier service as Sheriff of the City of London. In 2020 he was knighted for services to international business, skills, and inclusion. Today, his profile at Rothschild & Co underscores a blend of technical finance expertise, board-level judgment, and public service.
