Ouma Sananikone is a highly experienced executive and board director with a career spanning finance, asset management, governance, and ESG. She was appointed to Gecina’s Board of Directors on October 16, 2024, when the Board co-opted her to replace a resigning director. Her appointment was designed to strengthen the company’s expertise in financial markets, risk oversight, governance, and sustainability. She serves on Gecina’s Audit and Risk Committee as well as its Governance, Appointments and Compensation Committee, both of which play a key role in the oversight of a listed real estate company. Based in New York, Sananikone brings more than 30 years of leadership and board experience. She has held senior roles at Aberdeen Asset Management and EquitiLink Group, and she was the founding Managing Director of BNP Investment Management in Australia. Earlier in her career, she also held executive responsibilities at BT Financial Group, including in corporate strategy and development. Her background reflects deep expertise in investment management, capital allocation, portfolio strategy, and organizational transformation. Beyond executive management, she has served on several notable boards, including Ivanhoé Cambridge in Canada and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), demonstrating extensive experience in corporate governance across international institutions. She currently serves as an independent director at DMC Global, IA Financial Group, and Innergex Renewable Energy, and she is also a member of the advisory board of BW Group. These mandates underline her broad exposure to strategic oversight, financial discipline, and risk governance in different sectors and jurisdictions. Sananikone is also recognized for her commitment to humanitarian and social causes, particularly in the fields of art, education, and charitable organizations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from the Australian National University and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of New South Wales. She was also awarded the Centenary Medal by the Australian government for services to finance.
