Olivier Klein is a French banking executive and economist widely recognized for his deep expertise in retail banking, commercial banking and macroeconomic issues. He holds a degree in economics from Panthéon-Sorbonne University, a degree from ENSAE, and a higher finance degree from HEC. Over more than three decades, he has built a career across major French banking institutions, combining operational leadership, risk management and strategic oversight. He began his career in 1985 at BFCE, where he worked on foreign exchange and interest-rate risk management, then moved on to investment banking and regional commercial banking responsibilities. In 1998, he joined the Caisse d’Épargne Group. He first held senior management roles in regional savings banks, notably as Chairman of the Management Board of Caisse d’Épargne Île-de-France Ouest from 2000 to 2007, and then of Caisse d’Épargne Rhône-Alpes from 2007 to 2009. In January 2010, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of BPCE’s Commercial Banking and Insurance division, a position he held until September 2012. In October 2012, he became Chief Executive Officer of the BRED Group, leading the cooperative banking group for ten years until May 2023. At BRED, he oversaw a broad and diversified banking platform spanning retail banking, corporate banking, private banking, asset management, trading activities, insurance, private equity and international subsidiaries. This long tenure consolidated his reputation as a hands-on leader with strong commercial instincts and a solid understanding of banking balance-sheet discipline. Since September 2023, Olivier Klein has served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of Lazard Frères Banque, the entity supporting Lazard France’s investment banking and asset management activities. In parallel, he has taught macroeconomics and monetary policy at HEC since 1986, underscoring his academic grounding and policy insight. He also served on BPCE’s Supervisory Board and Risk Committee from 2019 to 2023. At Société Générale, he was proposed and appointed as an independent director for the 2025–2029 term, with responsibilities on the Audit and Internal Control Committee and the Risk Committee. His profile brings the Board proven retail banking leadership, strong risk expertise and an informed macroeconomic perspective, all of which are valuable assets in a complex and highly regulated banking environment.
