Karen G. Narwold is an American corporate executive and attorney with extensive experience in governance, legal affairs, and administrative leadership at multinational industrial companies. She serves on the board of directors of Ingevity Corporation, where she contributes to oversight of strategy, compliance, and sustainability and safety matters. Her background is well suited to publicly traded companies operating in highly regulated, operationally complex environments, where legal discipline and business execution must work together to support long-term value creation. Prior to her board service at Ingevity, Narwold spent many years in senior leadership roles at Albemarle Corporation. She served as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Albemarle reports that she joined the company in 2010 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary, and was later promoted to her expanded role in 2016. Her tenure at Albemarle included nearly 13 years as the company’s general counsel and corporate secretary, and a 36-year legal career overall, reflecting deep expertise in corporate governance, legal risk, compliance, and enterprise management. At Albemarle, Narwold played a significant role in the company’s transformation. The company credits her with reengineering the legal department, establishing its external affairs organization, and helping lead the negotiation and closing of the $6.2 billion acquisition of Rockwood Holdings in 2015, a transaction that strengthened Albemarle’s position as a leading lithium producer. Her broader career path includes increasing leadership responsibility at GrafTech International, Barzel Industries, Symmetry Advisors, and Symmetry Holdings, following her start in private legal practice. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Connecticut and a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and she is NACD Directorship Certified®, reinforcing her credentials as an experienced board-level leader.
