About Marc-Henri DESPORTES
Marc-Henri Desportes is a senior French executive with extensive experience in payments, transaction services, governance, and digital transformation, best known for his leadership roles at Worldline, one of Europe’s leading payment technology companies. He is a graduate of École Polytechnique and École des Mines de Paris. He began his career at the French Ministry of Finance from 2000 to 2005, where he worked on responsibilities connected to the Copernic programme. He then joined BNP Paribas, first in charge of audit coordination and later as Chief Information Officer at BNL, BNP Paribas’ Italian subsidiary. These roles gave him a strong foundation in financial control, IT leadership, and large-scale operational management. In 2009, he joined Atos, where he held senior executive positions in innovation, business development, strategy, and transaction services. He became General Manager of Worldline in 2014 and was later appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer in August 2018. At Worldline, he played a central role in the company’s development across merchant services, platform modernization, and strategic execution. His background combines public-sector discipline, banking expertise, and industrial technology leadership, which made him a key figure in shaping Worldline’s transformation into a larger, more integrated paytech group. In September 2024, Worldline’s Board appointed him as interim Chief Executive Officer following Gilles Grapinet’s departure, entrusting him with day-to-day management and the execution of the Power24 strategic plan. During this interim period, he was responsible for operational continuity, strategic implementation, and investor-facing stability in a challenging market environment. He also temporarily oversaw Merchant Services before Paul Marriott-Clarke took over in October 2024. In February 2025, Worldline announced the appointment of Pierre-Antoine Vacheron as CEO effective March 1, 2025, succeeding Marc-Henri Desportes and thanking him for his contribution as Deputy CEO and interim CEO. Overall, his career reflects a highly experienced executive profile with deep expertise in governance, transformation, and the scaling of digital payment businesses.
