Michael R. Long was a foundational leader at Usio, Inc., where he served as co-founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Executive Officer for many years before stepping down from the CEO role in August 2016. He then remained focused on governance as Chairman of the Board, and was later honored posthumously as Chairman Emeritus following his death in September 2022. His career spanned more than 40 years of senior executive management and systems development experience across publicly traded companies, as well as independent consulting work. Before assuming the CEO position at Usio, Mr. Long served as Vice President of Information Technology at Billing Concepts, then the largest third-party billing clearinghouse for the telecommunications industry. His earlier experience also included insurance-industry business development work at Accenture (then Andersen Consulting). As a business owner and consultant, he conducted studies for hardware and software companies, helping inform strategic decisions aimed at improving market share and supporting high growth. At Usio, he played a central role in the founding of Billserv.com in 1998 alongside David Jones and Louis Hoch, with the goal of building an industry leader in electronic bill presentment and payment. Under his leadership, the company established itself in electronic payments and later in ACH processing under the Payment Data Systems name before becoming Usio. His professional profile reflects a combination of technology leadership, strategic execution, corporate governance, and company building. He also served as an outside director of FaceKey Corporation, a San Antonio-based biometric security company focused on fingerprint and facial recognition systems.
