Laurent Burelle is a long-standing leader of OPmobility, formerly Compagnie Plastic Omnium, and one of the key figures behind the group’s strategic continuity and family-controlled governance. He is a graduate of ETH Zurich and holds a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from MIT. He began his career inside the group as a production engineer and assistant to the plant manager in Langres, an operational start that shaped his management style around industrial execution, performance, and close knowledge of manufacturing realities. In 1977, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Plastic Omnium SA in Valencia, Spain. He then became head of the Environment Division from 1981 to 1988 before being promoted to Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Compagnie Plastic Omnium, now OPmobility SE, in 1988. In 2001, he became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, a role he held until December 31, 2019. At that point, the company separated the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer to strengthen governance. Since January 1, 2020, Laurent Burelle has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of OPmobility SE. His career is closely associated with the transformation of the company into a global automotive supplier with a broader international footprint and a stronger focus on high-value-added businesses. Under his leadership, governance was modernized to support long-term growth and help the group navigate profound changes in the automotive market. In 2019, he initiated a governance change by appointing Laurent Favre as Chief Executive Officer, while retaining a strategic chairmanship role. He also oversaw the company’s rebranding to OPmobility, reflecting a wider industrial scope and global ambition. Laurent Burelle also served as Chairman of AFEP from 2017 to 2023.
