About Juergen ESSER

Juergen Esser is a senior Danone executive and, since February 1, 2023, has served as Group Deputy CEO in charge of Finance, Technology & Data. He has been a member of Danone’s Executive Committee since November 2020. In this role, he oversees functions that are central to the group’s performance and transformation, combining financial discipline, technology leadership, data strategy, and value creation on a global scale. Esser began his career in 1997 at PwC in Germany before joining Danone in 2000 as Finance Manager at Danone Dairy Germany. Over the years, he has held a broad range of progressively senior positions across finance and strategy. His experience includes Corporate International Treasury Director, Business Development Director for the Dairy Category in emerging markets, and Regional Finance Director within Danone’s Waters Division. In 2015, he was appointed VP Finance of the global Evian Volvic World organization, giving him exposure to one of Danone’s most important international brands. In July 2017, he was named SVP Finance of the worldwide Waters Category. A few months later, in September 2017, his remit expanded to include the strategic Africa business unit, covering all Danone divisions in that region. He also joined the Board of Danone Waters and Danone’s Finance Board, underscoring the breadth of his responsibilities and his influence on group governance and performance management. His internal progression reflects deep operational knowledge of Danone’s businesses, strong experience in international markets, and expertise in managing complex financial structures. As the executive responsible for Finance, Technology & Data, Esser plays a key role in Danone’s Renew strategy. His profile combines corporate finance, treasury, business development, category management, and digital transformation. He is recognized for his ability to mobilize cross-functional teams, navigate complex business environments, and support long-term value creation through rigorous execution and modernization of the company’s management systems.
