Helman le Pas de Sécheval is a senior French executive and, as of now, Secretary General of Veolia Environnement, where he also serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors and sits on the Executive Committee. Born in 1966, he is a graduate of École normale supérieure, holds a PhD in Physical Sciences, and is an engineer from École des Mines. His career combines high-level academic training, regulatory expertise, and hands-on financial leadership, making him a well-known profile in corporate governance within large listed companies. He started his professional journey in 1991 at Banexi in the financial engineering department. From 1993 to 1997, he served as deputy inspector-general of the underground quarries of Paris, gaining experience in public-sector technical oversight. In 1997, he joined the French securities regulator, the Commission des opérations de bourse, first as deputy head of the financial operations and information department and then as head of that department in 1998. This period gave him deep expertise in market regulation, corporate disclosure, and interaction with financial authorities. From 2001 to 2009, he was Group CFO of Groupama, before becoming CEO of Groupama Centre-Atlantique in 2010. He joined Veolia in September 2012 as Secretary General. In that role, he oversees key areas such as governance, legal affairs, corporate organization, compliance, and support to the Board and executive bodies. He also contributes to broader non-financial priorities, including diversity, inclusion, and ethical governance, and has been involved in internal initiatives promoting non-discrimination. Since February 2015, he has been a member of the college of the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF), and since May 2018 he has served on the board of the French Institute of Directors. At Veolia, his responsibilities are closely tied to the Group’s transformation, disciplined governance, and sustainable performance agenda.
