Gavin Graveson is a seasoned executive in environmental services and infrastructure, currently serving as CEO of Veolia’s Northern Europe Zone. Born in August 1963 in Lancashire, England, he joined Veolia more than twenty years ago as Commercial Director and gradually expanded his responsibilities across several of the group’s core activities. His career reflects a deep, hands-on understanding of Veolia’s business lines, including municipal contracts, treatment contracts, PFI-related projects, and public and commercial services. Over the years, Graveson has held a series of senior leadership positions. He served as COO, Public & Commercial, and was appointed Executive Vice-President of Veolia UK & Ireland in September 2018, succeeding Estelle Brachlianoff. In November 2021, he became CEO of the Northern Europe Zone, overseeing operations in the UK & Ireland, BeLux, the Netherlands and Finland, with responsibility for about 18,000 employees. He is also a member of Veolia’s Executive Committee, underlining his role in the group’s strategic direction and decision-making. His expertise spans waste management, recycling, treatment infrastructure, heating and energy solutions, and large-scale public service operations. In the UK, he played a key role in building and developing municipal and commercial services, as well as integrated waste and recycling infrastructure contracts. Veolia has also highlighted his involvement in initiatives related to decarbonization, circular economy solutions and energy innovation, all of which have become central to the group’s transformation agenda. Graveson is also a member of the Council for Sustainable Business, which advises the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on how businesses can help deliver the goals of the 25 Year Environment Plan. In addition, he has been recognized by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management for his contribution to the waste and recycling industry. His profile combines operational depth, strategic leadership and a strong commitment to environmental transition, making him one of Veolia’s key executive figures in Europe.
