François Provost is a French automotive executive best known today as Chief Executive Officer of Renault S.A. and Chairman of Renault s.a.s., roles he has held since July 31, 2025, together with a seat on the board as a director. He graduated from both École polytechnique and the École des mines de Paris, and has spent more than 23 years at Renault Group, building a career that combines industrial leadership, international management, and strategic execution. His trajectory reflects a steady rise through increasingly senior roles inside one of France’s most prominent listed industrial groups. Over time, Provost held several important positions across Renault’s global organization. He became CEO of Renault Samsung Motors in September 2011, then moved in 2016 to lead Renault Group’s operations in China. In April 2019, he was appointed Senior Vice President and Chairman of the China Region, and in October 2020 he became Director of International Development and Partnerships. In January 2023, Renault named him Chief Procurement, Partnerships and Public Affairs Officer, a role that placed him at the intersection of industrial performance, external relations, and strategic collaboration. His appointment as CEO reflected the board’s confidence in his deep knowledge of the company, its markets, and the challenges facing the auto industry. Renault described him as an experienced executive with strong international exposure, solid operational and strategic experience, and a clear understanding of the sector’s challenges. He was also closely involved in the rollout of the Renaulution strategy, including the creation of the Ampere and Horse entities, which were central to Renault’s restructuring around electric vehicles and hybrid/combustion powertrains. More recently, he presented futuREady, Renault Group’s new mid-term strategic plan aimed at turning the group’s “success story” into a “success system” toward 2030. In short, François Provost represents a highly operational, internationally seasoned leader rooted in Renault’s own ranks. His expertise spans procurement, partnerships, public affairs, alliance management, and complex transformation programs in a highly competitive global automotive environment shaped by electrification, cost pressure, and strategic reinvention.
