François-Henri Pinault is one of the most prominent figures in French family capitalism and the global luxury industry. A member of the Pinault family, he entered the orbit of the group founded by his father, François Pinault, and gradually took on major leadership responsibilities. A graduate of HEC, he joined the group in the early 1990s and built a profile shaped by operational management, strategic transformation, and the leadership of international brands. At PPR, later renamed Kering, he was appointed deputy chief executive officer in 2000, with responsibility for the group’s digital strategy. He became chief executive officer in 2003 and chairman and chief executive officer in 2005, before guiding the company’s deep strategic shift toward luxury. Under his leadership, Kering progressively divested non-core distribution assets and refocused entirely on luxury, building a portfolio of iconic houses such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and Alexander McQueen. This pivot is one of his most consequential achievements: it repositioned the group around higher-value assets aligned with a long-term strategy centered on brand desirability, creativity, and innovation. He also strengthened governance, performance discipline, and the group’s attention to environmental and social responsibility. Pinault has likewise been active in philanthropy and culture, notably through the Kering Foundation and initiatives such as Women In Motion, which promotes women in cinema and the creative industries. Since September 15, 2025, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kering, marking a new stage in the group’s governance evolution. His career reflects a rare combination of entrepreneurial inheritance, strategic clarity, luxury-sector expertise, and the ability to lead large-scale corporate transformation.
