Éric de Rothschild is a leading figure in the Rothschild banking dynasty and one of the key architects of the rebuilding and consolidation of the French arm of the family business. Educated at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, he joined Paris Orléans in 1974 as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board in 2004, a role he held until May 2018, and he now serves as Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Rothschild & Co. He is also President of Rothschild & Co Concordia SAS and Chairman of its Board of Directors.
Alongside David de Rothschild, Éric de Rothschild played a decisive role in bringing together the English and French branches of the family, at a particularly difficult moment after the nationalization of the French bank in 1982. Rothschild & Co states that the family and its associates worked across borders to rebuild the business from the ground up, regain the right to use the family name in 1985, and ultimately restore the firm to a leading market position. This underscores his ability to operate through major structural transitions with a long-term, institution-first mindset.
Within the group, Éric de Rothschild is associated with continuity, stewardship, and family governance. His responsibilities have included several mandates across the family’s companies, including wine businesses, reflecting a broader expertise that spans finance, legacy assets, and long-horizon brand management. His career is closely linked to the preservation of the group’s identity, strong governance discipline, and the intergenerational transmission of a global financial and entrepreneurial franchise.
