Dominique Louis is the founder and long-standing leader of Assystem, a French engineering group focused on nuclear power, complex infrastructure and high-value engineering services. A graduate engineer from ENSEM, he began his career as a test engineer at ATEM, in an industrial and nuclear engineering environment. He then founded R’data and later created Alphatem, a joint venture with COGEMA. The combination of these businesses formed the foundation of what would become Assystem. From the outset, he has played a decisive role in building the group by combining technical expertise, entrepreneurial drive and industrial execution capability. One of the major milestones in Dominique Louis’s career was Assystem’s initial public offering in 1995. At that time, the company employed around 3,000 engineers and technicians and generated revenue of €250 million, underscoring the scale already achieved under his leadership. In the late 1990s, as nuclear activity declined in France, he supported Assystem’s diversification into aerospace and automotive engineering while also accelerating its international expansion. This period highlighted his ability to steer strategic transformation in a changing market environment. More recently, in 2017, he led a strategic refocus of the group on its core historical strengths: nuclear power and complex infrastructure. This shift involved major portfolio decisions, including the sale of 60% of the outsourced R&D business to Ardian and the acquisition of a 5% stake in Framatome, reinforcing Assystem’s position within the French nuclear ecosystem. These moves reflected a deliberate strategy of specialization in markets linked to the energy transition. Beyond operational leadership, Dominique Louis has also contributed to the public debate on decarbonization and energy policy. In 2018, he co-authored “2050: la France sans Carbone,” followed in 2021 by “Energie nucléaire, le vrai risque,” both of which argue for the role of nuclear power in addressing climate challenges. His profile therefore combines entrepreneurship, listed-company governance, deep sector knowledge and a long-term strategic view of energy transition issues. He is also a Knight of the French Legion of Honour.
