Haffner Energy is a French clean-energy technology company focused on converting residual biomass into low-carbon fuels and energy molecules. Headquartered in Vitry-le-François in the Grand Est region, and also operating in Paris, Nantes and Houston, the company designs, manufactures, supplies and operates solutions for renewable gas, renewable hydrogen, renewable methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Its business model sits at the intersection of industrial decarbonization, circular economy principles and the transition away from fossil-based energy systems. The company traces its origins back more than three decades. It was co-founded by Marc and Philippe Haffner and states that it has 32 to 33 years of experience in biomass-to-energy, together with roughly 15 years of R&D work on its proprietary thermolysis and biomass gasification technologies. This long development cycle has helped Haffner Energy build an intellectual property portfolio of around 80 international patents and create an industrial platform aimed at producing renewable syngas, hydrogen and synthetic fuels. The company also highlights the co-production of biogenic CO2 and biochar, which strengthens the environmental case for its process. Haffner Energy’s business lines are relatively diversified for a mid-cap clean-tech player. It does not only sell equipment, but also develops modular solutions, supports project engineering, performs feedstock testing and can participate in the operation of plants. Its customer base includes industrial groups, project developers, utilities, municipalities and mobility stakeholders looking for competitive alternatives to fossil fuels. In January 2026, the company launched its C-iC modular unit line, based on its H6 technology, to address the financing and deployment challenges of medium-sized decentralized biofuel projects. According to the company, these units can produce up to 1,700 kW of renewable syngas or up to 50 kg per hour of renewable hydrogen, helping make such projects more bankable without subsidies. A key recent milestone was the commissioning in February 2025 of what the company described as the world’s first solid-biomass hydrogen production plant at its Marolles site in France. Haffner Energy presents this facility as a testing, training and production center used to validate different types of biomass, including non-conventional feedstocks. Its geographic footprint remains mainly European, but its Houston presence gives it a foothold in the US market and supports international business development. Overall, Haffner Energy is positioned as an innovative industrial decarbonization platform with a differentiated technological base, a strong patent position and an expanding pipeline of renewable fuel applications.
