Steven Doares, Ph.D., is an industrial executive with deep expertise in manufacturing sciences, technology transfer, and biologics scale-up. He joined Cellectis in July 2020 as Senior Vice President, US Manufacturing and Site Head for the company’s Raleigh, North Carolina facility. In this role, he oversees the deployment of Cellectis’ in-house manufacturing site, which is intended to produce gene-edited cell therapies for the company’s immuno-oncology pipeline, including its UCART product candidates. His position is strategically important because it connects research, clinical development, and the ability to manufacture at clinical and, eventually, commercial scale. Before joining Cellectis, Doares served at Biogen as Vice President, Global Manufacturing Sciences. There, he was responsible for technology transfer into GMP manufacturing across the clinical-to-commercial lifecycle for Biogen’s therapeutic portfolio. His remit also included scientific support for process troubleshooting, lifecycle improvements, process monitoring, advanced modeling, and the implementation of process analytical technologies. In addition, he handled technical and vendor management for raw materials and single-use systems, and oversaw drug substance and drug product processes for biologics and pharmaceuticals. Prior to Biogen, he spent roughly 15 years at Wyeth/Pfizer, where he worked on glycoconjugate vaccine process development, technology transfer, clinical trial material production, and quality assurance support for a vaccine substance manufacturing plant. That background gave him broad experience in regulated manufacturing environments, complex industrial operations, and translational execution from development into production. Doares holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Georgia. At Cellectis, his expertise supports the company’s effort to build robust internal manufacturing capabilities, a key advantage for a late-stage biotechnology company seeking to secure supply, improve operational control, and advance its pipeline efficiently.
